Artist Statement

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

Who I Am

I’m Shaun Whennen — the artist behind DrawDadDraw. I’m a self-taught creator, a dad, and a storyteller who found his voice through pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and eventually the digital canvas. What started as a personal practice became a pursuit of something larger: art that connects mythology, imagination, and the human experience in a way that feels both timeless and immediate.

The Work

My work spans five distinct mediums — charcoal, perspective drawing, watercolor, digital illustration, and photography — each one a different lens through which I explore the same core themes: power, beauty, struggle, and transcendence. The Greek gods and goddesses that anchor much of my catalog are not relics of the past. They are mirrors. They reflect who we are, what we fear, and what we aspire to become.

Whether I’m rendering the raw tension of a charcoal figure study or the luminous calm of a watercolor landscape, I approach every piece with the same intention: to make the viewer feel something real.

The Philosophy

I believe art should live in the world, not behind glass. That’s why DrawDadDraw exists — to bring original, mythology-inspired artwork into homes, onto walls, and into everyday life through premium prints, custom pieces, and products built to last. Every item is produced on demand, with intention, and with care for both quality and the planet. For every order placed, a tree is planted — because the stories we tell should leave the world better than we found it.

An Invitation

If a piece speaks to you, it was made for you. If you have a vision of your own — a commission, a collaboration, a story you want told in art — I want to hear it. This work is a conversation, and you’re always welcome in it.
